In recent times, there has been a serious push by people to reconnect with nature; whether it’s by getting out of the city more often or by spending some extra time in the garden, we are all thirsty for more greenery in our lives.

Of course, the ideal is to have a little haven of your own, tucked away in a garden or corner of a yard to enjoy after a heavy day in work.

But what happens when you are tight on space – not everyone can have a wide green expanse to bask in on the sunny evenings.

The Greenwall Company founder and former Horticulturalist of the Year Mark Paul has shared his tips for greening any space in the home. A greenwall not only beautifies a space but also improves air quality, provides insulation, and has a positive effect on the residents’ moods.

Mark says: “There are a few things you need to take into consideration prior to installing a greenwall in your home, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. The first is: do you currently have access to water, light and airflow? If not, is it going to be an extra cost to install plumbing, lighting or fans?”

The second factor is the plant selection – will the ones you’ve picked thrive in the space you’ve chosen? Every space will require different pallet design.

The good thing about a greenwall however is its versatility – they can be installed almost anywhere as Mark points out.

A greenwall is a fantastic addition to the home.

Outdoor Room: An outdoor greenwall can be a great way to hide tired, old or ugly fencing or walls as well as providing privacy from neighbours. If planted correctly you can also create extra height and privacy without needing council approval.

Living Room: Bringing nature indoors can offer a high level of insulation, keeping warm air in during the winter and keeping it out during the summer!

Kitchen: Opt for plants that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye when selecting a greenwall for your kitchen.

Bathroom: Greenwalls can improve the air quality in your bathroom as well as remove toxins, and they are becoming more and more popular following recent media exposure.

The Roof: Yes, even your roof can be a green space. Installing a greenroof or EcoPillows will capture storm water in addition to other benefits including: softening a hard roof surface, improved air quality and insulation.

Mark adds: “No matter what area you’re working with, our new and improved greenwall and greenroof systems can be easily customised to fit any space, large or small.”
