Heritage homes have so much beauty and character, the story they tell can be whimsical.  However when carrying out improvements or extensions to a heritage listed home, it can come with its challenges.

The key to your success is engaging a knowledgeable design company that will lead and guide you through the planning and development process.  Working closely with the town planners are paramount to the success of the build.  Engaging the right business to navigate you through this process, is just an important as the designer you trust to bring your dream home to life.

We can walk you through the planning process, provide mood boards for your project, draft floor and site plans, prepare photorealistic 3D visualisations, engage and strategize with town planners on your behalf, complete soil testing and engineering reports, and engage a certifier to sign off on your project.  All you need to do is sit back and relax with a glass of champagne in your beautiful new home.

Our Heritage Listed House Renovation

We recently completed a massive transformation of a rare late 19th century workers cottage in Fortitude Valley, bringing it into today’s modern living lifestyle.  We worked closely with the town planners to make sure that the final design paid respect to the history of the cottage and followed all of councils design constraints. The final constraints included retaining the original roof, absolutely no demolition of the existing original windows, and to build in-under with the rear extension sitting 500mm inside the original core of the building.  We were very limited on space with a block size of 253m.  The original house sat unbalanced on the land and had to be straightened to ensure that it would sit inside the property boundaries.  The block has dual street frontage and a steep slope, which also presented its challenges for an in-under extension.  Council also requested that the front walls that a previous owner had constructed were to be demolished, to bring back the original front balcony of the cottage.

The brief from our clients was clear – transform this original workers cottage into a family home with a fresh modern feel.  We designed and drafted plans to extend the original cottage to include a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area, which opened up onto an impressive entertaining deck.  In-under the original structure we included a master suite and laundry.

The end result was impressive, a home oozing with character and charm juxtaposed with sharp angles and modern materials.  This remarkable home has the modern feel of the Fortitude Valley, whilst paying homage to its beautiful heritage.
