Teenagers will be the first ones to tell parents that they need their own space and when it comes to, quite literally, refurbishing their bedroom, it’s important the room can multitask as a sleep, study and entertainment space.

Interior stylist Julia Green took one teenager’s room and, using Dulux’s Identity palette from the 2019 Colour Forecast, managed to turn a functional but uninspiring bedroom into something playful, adventurous and modern.

The green feature wall was replaced with a softer shade of Apricot Fool, a neutral colour conducive to studying or quiet time.

Upcycling, Julia says, is a good way of keeping the budget in check. Repainting old furniture gives it a whole new look. In this case, a plain timber desk and drawer, a section of a surfboard, and the top of the bedside table were spruced up with Dulux colours which provided colour pops throughout the room.

She also recommends getting your teen involved in order to create a space that they will love.
