A report issuing the failure of New South Wales gutters to meet Australian standards, was suppressed by the previous state government.

Guttering systems in New South Wales are failing to meet industry standards, according to a report which is alleged to have been suppressed by the previous state government.
Insufficient down-piping and inconsistent overflow of high front guttering are contributing to mould, timber rot and building deterioration, sending millions of homeowner’s dollars down the gutter every year.
According to the report, it is estimated that 86% of the market is built towards re-guttering existing buildings, while only one in the 35 display houses examined was found to have guttering that complied with Australian Standards.
The findings will have ramifications for builders, plumbers and roof plumbers who will have to adapt to new industry advice and installation guides once they are implemented.
Despite the report concluding there is little systematic problem, NSW Fair Trading is working on acting upon the recommendations outlined.
