Door-to-door sales could be limited to certain times of the day and only on certain days of the week, thanks to a recent crackdown by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
The ACCC has said that households should not be door knocked outside the hours of 9am and 6pm on a weekday, or on Sundays or public holidays.
The crackdown comes as energy companies are being blasted for aggressive tactics and misleading information, particularly against the elderly and those who have limited English.
Websites that provide lists of electricity and gas prices, designed to help consumers pick a contract to fit their budget, are also on notice.
The investigation comes after a series of complaints about door-to-door service and shady marketing practices.
