This week, Epson announced the launch of two new lines of 3D 1080p home theatre projectors. The first range is geared towards home viewing, while the second is designed with custom installers in mind.

Both lines feature a model equipped with WirelessHD™, which allows for wireless full HD streaming from video sources like Blu-ray players, game consoles and other video sources. This works using a bundled transmitter, which can be connected via HDMI to a video source, allowing it to be streamed to the projector.

Bruce Bealby, Business Manager, Visual Imaging at Epson says “A major hurdle in all 3D systems is maintaining image brightness and thus
picture quality. Epson has addressed this by using a 480Hz Active Shutter system
in its 3D projectors rather than the slower 240Hz system”.

The new projectors make use of a 480Hz Active Shutter system which, according to Epson, reduces the blackout time of 3D glasses, providing a brighter 3D image than you might expect on a projector with a 240Hz shutter.

The family projectors

The ‘family’ range consists of the EH-TW5900, the EH-TW6000 and the EH-TW6000W (as you might expect, the ‘W’ stands for ‘wireless’). These projectors have an output of up to 2200 limens, and dynamic contrast ratios of up to 40,000:1.

Each of the three models also features a built-in pair of 10W speakers, and the EH-TW6000 and EH-TW6000W models come with two pairs of 3D glasses.

The custom install projectors

The custom install range includes the EH-TW8000 and the EH-TW9000W (again, with the ‘W’ model being the one with wireless capabilities). These projectors output at 2400 lumens and each have a dynamic contrast ratio of 200,000:1.

Epson MG-850HD – for iPad, iPod and iPhone

Epson has also announced the launch of another projector, this one with a dock that allows it to be directly connected to either an Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod. This projector also features built-in 10W speakers, and a brightness of 2800 lumens, a contrast ratio of 3,000:1, and a resolution of up to 1280×800 (WXGA) – along with a microphone port, for those inclined towards karaoke (or business presentations).
