Hot water system manufacturer Rheem has announced a voluntary safety recall of selected heat pump models. The recall applies to various models under its Rheem and Everhot brands.
The affected Rheem models include: 451325, 551325, 554325, 551410, 561325. The affected Everhot brand models affected include: 261270, 261325, 261410.
According to Rheem, less than 1% of the units being recalled are faulty. The fault in the affected units is with an electrical component, and may cause “short bursts of extreme vibration accompanied by a loud hammering noise”, possibly causing the heat pump unit to shut down.
Rheem requests that consumers experiencing these conditions immediately shut the unit off at the switchboard and call the company, and that all owners of the affected models contact Rheem on 1800 036 018 to arrange for free on-site modifications to rectify the fault.
