Weatherproof and underwater light mountings

In areas exposed to moisture such as bathrooms, outdoor spaces, water fountains and swimming pools, standard light fixtures may not be suitable. Water ingress can affect electrical safety and reduce fixture lifespan. To avoid these problems, use light fittings designed to withstand wet conditions.

Choosing the right light fixtures

Select fixtures with an ingress protection (IP) rating of at least IP67. This rating means the fixture is dust-tight and can handle immersion in water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes. These fixtures are suitable for indoor wet areas and outdoor spots exposed to rain or splashes.

Sealing existing installations

If you have existing light fixtures in moisture-prone areas, applying a quality silicone sealant around the edges can help prevent water entry. However, if you suspect any issues, it is best to have a licensed electrician inspect and fix the installation.
