Tapping into the outdoors

Despite a cold snap leaving the country’s southeast shivering, many took to King’s Birthday holiday last weekend, getting packed and setting out in the family car for an out-of-town escape. For myself, it was heading east of Melbourne, visiting the town of Warburton for the first time.

I was immediately captured and mesmerised by Warburton, nestled amongst the smoky, green mountain, trees and fauna of the Yarra Ranges along a modest and charming stretch of the Yarra River. The old mining town visually speaks a lot about its past with its commercial centre housed in buildings dating back to its 1900s Melburnian roots, timber watermills and more, making it very much a part of its surrounding environment.

The cold weather will continue across the southeast, with eastern NSW to receive the thickest cloud and rain. However, visiting Warburton was a reminder of why more Australians have turned to the natural, environmental lifestyle with a longing for a serene and calming ambience in the home, with a spell of bleak, wintery weather showing the beauty and mental stimulation that can follow.

So, before you get comfortable in front of the TV and watch the ‘Green and Gold’ in Paris next month, tune into June’s edition of Build.com.au and see what’s on offer in early winter.
