An iconic St Kilda building has been transformed as part of this season of The Block.
Five teams are renovating five separate three story terraces in the former Oslo Hotel.

NSWâs Andy and Deb are a business owner and comedy duo who have taken the show by storm, and they have created a look described by Deb as âAustralian Luxe meets California Coolâ, with sleek, clean lines offset by an earthy palette of warm copper and wicker accents.
They enlisted Scotty Clarkson from Chippie Timber Creations to bring their vision to life.
Scotty says: âAndy and Deb wanted to create a contemporary coastal look using a central product that would be emulated throughout the home. Cemintel Edge Cladding encompasses the âCalifornia coolâ style that Deb was after, but is still subtle enough not to dominate the design.â
While edge cladding is generally an outdoor product, Scotty found nothing suitable on the market to create the rustic coastal textures indoors.
The cladding is also used in the kitchen where the vertical panels elongated the ceilings, extending them to the skylight which floods the room with natural light.

Scotty says: âThe high ceilings in the kitchen were really distinctive so they needed some sort of texture to create dimension. The edge cladding had the perfect texture and opened up the void, bringing more light into the room.â
Edge cladding is a feature throughout the house; it was used to create a floor-to-ceiling feature wall behind the bed, as well as along the level one hallway running from the staircase through the kitchen, living and dining rooms to the garage.

âItâs a central product throughout the whole home that ties the rooms together and keeps the coastal style flowing.â
The product cut down on manpower hours and is also very durable in what are high traffic areas.
âEdge was the perfect solution for this project, particularly in the hallway where tradespeople were walking with tools; it didnât get any scratches or dents that would have impacted the look of the design. It gave us peace of mind when building to deadline,â adds Scotty.
