2025 interior trends are shifting to brant and bold statement pieces from the more muted minimalism in previous years, according to IconByDesign interior designer and furniture expert Ryan McCarthy.
Ryan suggests selecting foundational pieces in rich and deep hues that can be adapted over time, to not have to commit to one ultimate aesthetic.
“The Olivia Armchair in Burnt Umber is a great example,” he says.
“It’s a statement piece that fits right into the bold trend because of its timeless design and high-quality craftsmanship; it can easily transition into a more neutral aesthetic when paired with different accessories or reupholstered in a softer tone.”
Ryan claims that the key to achieving a bold and sophisticated home is to blend statement elements with more sustainable and well-crafted furniture.
“Instead of going all-in on fleeting trends, select a few bold focal points and anchor them with quality, natural materials that have a lasting impact,” he says.
For example, Ryan suggests a piece like the Olivia Sideboard in Solid Oak and then painting a feature wall in your home.
Ryan notes that it is also fun to experiment with accessories to refresh the look of the home.
“A handwoven statement rug or bold-toned cushions can completely transform a space,” he says.
“Something like the Freya Handloom NZ Wool Rug Knotted Rug in a deep, moody shade like Nori Green adds texture and drama while keeping the overall aesthetic grounded.”
Ryan says to think bold but functional and recommends investing in high-quality and responsibly sourced materials.
“Opting for solid wood furniture like our Olivia Dining Chair with a solid oak frame and fabric seat allows you to embrace the trend of bold furniture while maintaining flexibility,” he says.
