Hot Trends Shaping the Face of Kitchen Design

Last year brought a lot of innovations in the world of kitchen design, such as concrete surfaces, glass backdrops, brass everywhere, industrial faucets, as well as modern kitchen islands. However, this year took all of those trends and lifted them up a notch.

This year, aside from the breath-taking aesthetic, the accent is put on functionality as well. So, if you’re looking to upgrade your kitchen and you want to make it as functional and as contemporary as possible, check out some of the hottest trends right now.

Keep it simple

One of the styles that made the scene last year was definitely Scandi, however, this year, it has made its way to the kitchen scene as well. One of the reasons that this trend became such a popular choice for kitchen environments lies behind its cleanliness and minimalist design. In the Scandi style, there simply is no room for clutter or unnecessary trinkets and the light hues paired with the raw beauty of natural materials only boost the elegance of this design. So, if your aim is to create a clean, modern and elegant design in your kitchen, Scandi is definitely the look to go for.

Go for contrast

For a more “out there” look, you can choose to go for a complete contrast. For this look, you can choose to contrast the warm brass hue of your faucets, cabinet hardware and appliances with a backsplash in a bluish toned-down, colder hue. Furthermore, paint your walls in a light grey hue and top it all off with a white marble countertop. Additionally, you can even paint your bottom cabinets in a deep blue shade to deepen the contrast even further, but if you do, make sure you go for polyurethane coating solutions to ensure that the paint will stay fresh and vibrant for many years to come.

Add a pop of colour

Now, if toned down looks are not quite your cup of tea, you can choose to go in a completely opposite direction and make your kitchen as colourful as you want. For example, you can choose to paint the adjacent walls purple – one being the Pomp and Power shade and the other one Heliotrope – and add oak wood kitchen cabinets. The colour of the walls will make the cabinets pop, and you can add even more colour with various kitchen appliances and utensils in different hues, such as lime green, bright orange and yellow. This way, you’ll create a perfectly colourful design without making it too overwhelming.

A new twist on kitchen islands

Kitchen islands are no longer meant to serve the purpose of storing away your dishes and preparing food. Instead, they are now serving a dual purpose and act as a seating arrangement as well. To recreate this in your kitchen, replace your island’s top with the one that is at least half a meter wider than your kitchen island. Then, simply add some interesting chairs – you can even go for some interesting bar stools – on the side that’s reaching further than the end of the island and you’ve got yourself an interesting dining area.

Open shelf cabinets

The latest trend in the world of kitchen design is definitely the open shelf cabinets trend. This trend became huge at the beginning of this year, and we can expect to see a lot of different approaches to it by the end of the year. Now, since this look is so versatile and appeals to your personal taste, there really is no “how to” guide, except the fact that you should remove your cabinet doors, repaint the inner part of your cabinets to give them a fresh shine and arrange your kitchenware, dishes and utensils as you see fit. You can even add small décor pieces in between the dishes to make it even more visually appealing.

A balanced vibe

Since the kitchen is the heart of every home, and it’s the place where we prepare delicious meals for us and our families, the vibe many people choose to feature is a harmonious, balanced design. To create this look, choose a centrepiece of your kitchen – this is usually the workstation with a sink and a stove – and place all the other elements around it, trying to keep them as symmetrical as possible. Also, here, you don’t even have to implement top kitchen cabinets in the overall design. Instead, place top-to-bottom side cabinets that resemble a wardrobe, or they can even come with glass fronts for additional pizzazz.

While it may feel like there really is nothing new happening in the realm of kitchen designs, they are actually becoming more and more bold and unique with each passing year. Therefore, make sure you check all of these ideas out and decide on the style that will work best for you and your kitchen. And, no matter what style you decide on, make sure you always go with durable and sustainable materials to ensure the longevity of your new kitchen.
