Insulations quote and website

Hi,

I have recently received an insulation quote from [EDITOR'S NOTE: Company name removed]. Just checking their website and it is not working. Are you able to advise if there is any concerns with using this installer noting the issues that have plagued the installation industry i.e. with unregsitered installers and rebates in the last 2 years?

Thanks
Natasha

Hi Natasha,

We can't say one way or another whether there are any concerns with using that particular installer (and to be fair to them we've removed their name before publishing this). There are any number of different reasons why their website could be down, that alone doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the company or the standard of work they do.

There's some excellent consumer information on the ICANZ (Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand) website telling people how to tell if an insulation installer is kosher. They recommend that you should:

- Check to ensure that the product they're selling complies with Australian Standards (AS4859.1) - and ideally that the manufacturer is certified to ISO9001.

- Check the company's background - see how long they've been in the business, and whether they've had any specific training from their suppliers.

- Get a second quote and compare - Look at things like warranties on performance, how long each has been in the market and so forth.

The ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) also offers some more general advice on identifying legitimate traders which might be helpful too.

    All the best,
    The BUILD team.
