Henley has revealed the top three design trends of 2018 after collecting client flatlays over 30 days at Henley Design in Victoria.

With selections available from 35 suppliers and thousands of products on show, Henley Design allows home owners to see how different products look in different settings, play around with colours, examine samples and explore new ideas.

Henley Design senior design consultant Micaela Austin says the flatlays demonstrate Australia’s classic yet conservative nature. The results reveal home owners are favouring black colours, beige and grey tones, and foliage and greenery in their interiors.

The top performing products for the month were Caesarstone Ginger, Dulux in Russian Toffee and Namadji Rinders, and Austral Brick in Chestnut followed closely Austral Truffle, generating a grey, beige and black palette overall.

“We see lots of bold style outcomes - subtle choices with striking combinations of texture, colour and finish. We always welcome creativity and individuality but most new home buyers opt for classic looks that will create a lasting base, which they can then add seasonal or trending layers to,” says Micaela.

“We are finding a lot of clients are drawn to the neutral and beige tones with pops of black and textured fabrics.  The addition of greenery to any palette, whether it is foliage or décor, instantly lifts any look.

“These are colour selections that will still be attractive in five, 10 or 40 years time.”

Rugs, artwork, cushions, throws, furniture and accessories are just some of the interior designer secrets that layer a room into a trend or season.

How to style your home ahead of trend

  • Don’t be afraid of black, it is no longer scary. Use it as a subtle feature and in smaller portions
  • Beige and grey tones will always be popular, as they are safe and neutral.  Furnish and accessorise with seasonal lifts, such as greenery, rugs and artwork
  • Add lots of foliage and greenery. Get amongst nature with feature walls and tiles in this tone.  It is not a bright green, more pastel greens and greens with an undertone of blue.

“At Henley Design, we are all for accessing affordable inspiration, and all our team can walk through the array of options available for their Henley home, using flatlays to finetune the desired style and tastes they are looking for,” says Micaela.
