Beem has launched a cloud based PVR service to make it easier for Australians to record and watch TV.
By signing up to Beem’s cloud PVR service, consumers can record their choice of digital Free To Air television programming and watch back TV shows and movies at a more convenient time, all within in a web browser.
On Beem, recorded TV shows and movies are stored securely in personal cloud based storage and can be accessed anywhere on the internet via streaming video.
Beem has launched at a time when the trend of time shifting television broadcasts is increasing. Time shifting television is not only convenient in an increasingly fast paced world, but is also a right enshrined in Australian legislation.
“Beem’s mission is to help people watch what they want, when they want, where and how they want it. We’re intuitively delivering TV to the Web,” says Beem co-founder Jimmy Storrier.
“Beem represents part of a new world where consumers choose a time and place that’s convenient to them for their entertainment viewing.”

Beem streams videos to a desktop or laptop web browser in high-quality and offers the ability to watch videos in full screen. The service will soon be available on other platforms including mobile devices, tablets, set-top boxes and internet connected television sets.
Beem now offers consumers the ability to both time shift and more importantly, place shift television.
“It’s clear that consumers are in control of their entertainment experience today, and a service like Beem helps them re-engage with television in ways they wouldn’t have before,” says Jimmy.
He adds, “Beem is not just an cloud based PVR. The service also offers the content industry a flexible, centralised platform to deliver their content to consumers, a platform which they may not have the time or inclination to build themselves. Currently Beem is only available to residents of Sydney, Australia, but Storrier says that the service will be aggressively rolled out not only within Australia, and also internationally in the coming year.
