Luxury interior furniture showroom and interior designers at Sovereign Interiors bring the soul of Italian craftsmanship to Australian homes. In collaboration with Italy’s most revered designers and artisans, Sovereign transforms centuries-old techniques into contemporary pieces that honour tradition while embracing the openness and ease of Australian living.
“At this year’s Salone del Mobile, we saw Italian design take on a more soulful, organic edge: curved forms, soft matte finishes, natural stones like travertine, warm timber, and tactile fabrics,” Sovereign Interiors interior stylist, showroom and marketing manager Cayley Scrooby says.
“It reflects a shift we’re also seeing in Australia, a desire for refined minimalism that feels grounded, lived-in and connected to nature. It’s a beautiful synergy, where Italian craftsmanship meets the ease and honesty of Australian living.”
Italian minimalism meets Australian lifestyle in elysian Perth residence
Sovereign Interiors’ most recent Perth project exemplifies Italian minimalism reinterpreted for Australian living. Designed with signature Italian collections, the residence balances ultra-luxury with family comfort and practical functionality.
“The design brief was to blend timeless elegance with everyday practicality,” Cayley says.
“Open-plan living connects the main lounge, dining, and expansive outdoor entertaining spaces, capturing the essence of the Australian lifestyle. Rather than transplanting Italian craftsmanship, the residence weaves it seamlessly into this way of living; expansive, relaxed and in harmony with nature. Each furniture piece was chosen for both sophistication and family comfort, reinforcing the seamless indoor-outdoor connection.”
Reflex angelo ‘Big Ben’ dining suite
The Reflex angelo ‘Big Ben’ dining suite is a show-stopping centerpiece, crafted with Venetian glass and intricate gold and chrome clockwork gears.
For the Perth project, the dining suite was further personalised with the client’s choice of combination of Italian leather and fabric detailing, making it a fully bespoke piece by Reflex Angelo. The centerpiece turntable rotates like the features of the iconic Big Ben clock, merging sculptural artistry with everyday utility, anchoring the open-plan dining area.
Reflex Angelo traces its origins to the Lucatello family’s Società Vetraria Biancadese, specialising in solid Murano glass and high-end furniture. Designed by Riccardo Lucatello for Reflex Angelo, the Big Ben showcases traditional Venetian techniques such as expert glass shaping and meticulous hand-finishing, brought together with modern engineering to create a table that is both functional and sculptural.
“This suite represents the fusion of centuries-old Italian craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking, perfectly tailored for the modern Australian lifestyle,” Cayley says.
Turri Roma bedroom suite designed by Monica Armani
In contrast to the bold presence of the dining suite, the Turri Roma bed, designed by Monica Armani, brings subtlety, refinement and intimate luxury to the bedroom.
“Elegant and seductive, ethereal, timeless piece,” Monica describes. “The inspiration came as a journey through the archetypes of Italian architecture, from Ancient Rome with the Colosseum to the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (‘Square Colosseum’).”
The bed’s design draws on the semicircular arch, translating precise curves and clean lines into a sculptural yet inviting centerpiece. “What fascinated me most in the collaboration with Turri is their vision and the mastery of their artisans. Bringing my stylistic signature into dialogue with such extraordinary craftsmanship at the highest level was inspiring. From this, the Roma Collection was born.”
The Roma collection concept by Monica Armani
At the heart of the Roma night area, the bed designed by Monica Armani for Turri stands as an icon of contemporary elegance. Fully upholstered in leather, it envelops the space with its refined presence, while the side panels, embroidered with the collection’s signature motif, embody the perfection of Italian craftsmanship.”
In Perth, this vision translates into a bedroom that is both serene and practical, an Italian architectural motif reimagined as a retreat tailored to the pace of Australian family life.
Behind the scenes of Italian craftsmanship
Sovereign Interiors works with family-run ateliers in Milan, Pesaro, Venice and Forlì, where artisans continue centuries-old techniques, hand-carving, inlay work, intricate joinery and precision-stitched upholstery.
“What makes these pieces truly extraordinary is the soul behind them. You can feel the care in every curve, every seam, every finish.” Cayley says.
While rooted in tradition, these ateliers embrace innovation. CNC machinery and 3D modelling enhance precision and durability without compromising integrity. The result is pieces that are timeless yet perfectly suited for modern Australian living.
Italian craft for Australian living
Bringing Italian craftsmanship to Australia requires more than aesthetics. Australian homes favour openness, natural light and relaxed sophistication. Sovereign Interiors adapts dimensions, materials and finishes to suit local conditions, ensuring durability for indoor and outdoor spaces, from UV-resistant fabrics to marine-grade finishes.
Cayley shares, “We always say: luxury should be liveable. That’s the harmony we aim to achieve, where beauty doesn’t come at the expense of comfort or functionality.”
Australia’s shift toward intentional design
Australian clients now seek pieces that tell a story, who made them, where and how. Modular sofas, sculptural dining tables in natural stone or timber and elegant storage solutions are crafted to be used, admired and handed down.
“It’s less about fast interiors and more about lasting impact, pieces that feel personal, crafted and considered,” Cayley adds. This shift mirrors the very ethos of Italian design, where craftsmanship and provenance are inseparable from beauty. By bringing these values into Australian homes, Sovereign Interiors bridges two worlds: the timeless artistry of Italy and the relaxed, practical elegance of Australian living.
