Light tubes

A light tube

Similar to skylights, these tubes bring subtly daylight into your house and are easily disguised as light fittings.

Light tubes

Light tubes are like a skylight, but can blend in as regular fittings.

Lighting has a profound effect on the mood or ā€œfeelā€ of a room. As such, a room that allows a lot of natural light in will feel light, open and airy. One of the cheapest ways of harnessing the benefits of natural light, including a reduction in power consumption, lower bills and the inherent health benefits, is to incorporate daylighting techniques into your homeā€™s design.

What are solar light tubes?

Solar light tubes are an increasingly popular method of allowing daylight into a room. Solar light tubes are a variation on skylights which, inside the house, closely resemble recessed light fixtures. Light tubes are a subtle form of daylighting, and can easily be mistaken for conventional artificial lights.

Solar light tubes consist of a tube lined with reflective material that is laid throughout your homeā€™s ceiling cavity, beginning with a covered skylight-style opening on the side or roof of your home. The cover is usually a dome, which means that at all times of the day you will get some form of sunlight coverage.

They are also less likely to show wear and tear on your homeā€™s furnishings than a conventional skylight, which can cause fading of carpets and furniture. A solar light tube is not going to cause fading because the UV radiation is typically blocked with a resistant glazing or film.
