Australia’s first community owned wind farm, located in Leonards Hill, Victoria, has started generating electricity after four years of planning and development.

With a total capacity of 4 megawatts of power, Hepburn Community Wind Park can generate enough power to provide for 2300 homes.

The wind farm is integrated with smart grid technology provided by the ABB Group, giving it the ability to connect the generated renewable energy into the grid.

The two wind turbines will provide renewable energy to almost all of the homes in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs.

The cost benefits to the community of the plant include savings on land use and civil works.
