PRODUCT NEWS: Smeg’s new smartphone-inspired oven

Smeg’s new Linear SFPA140 oven features a smartphone-like LED touchscreen, pre-set recipes and pyrolytic cleaning, among other features.

50 years ago nobody would’ve dreamed of having an ice-maker in their fridge, or an induction cooktop, or even a microwave for that matter – and yet these days those things are pretty much par for the course.

Smeg’s been leading the charge back into the past with its faithfully styled 50’s throwback appliances recently – but this new oven’s strictly contemporary.

The Smeg Linear SFPA140 oven is a sleek multi-function affair with a full-colour smartphonesque LED touchscreen, built-in recommendations for 50 types of recipes (including advice on things like shelf heights), pyrolytic cleaning functions – including energy efficient options – and plenty more.

According to Smeg, this space age oven’s designed to lure even the most stubbornly disinterested chef into the kitchen, and is very much programmed for Aussie audiences. The recipes, for example, are said to be tailored for local Australian fish species, and the ‘meat results’ are geared to our understanding of what’s medium, rare and so forth.
