Deck styles & materials

While all decks follow a fairly simple principle (i.e. boards laid out to provide a comfortable living area), there's a huge amount of freedom in terms of what you can do to make a deck useful. You might be surprised at just how many different design options there are. Freestanding decks allow you to build as you like, detached from your house. Split level decks give you the chance to create or segment spaces, and pool and spa decks are just one example of how you can use a deck to improve and complement just about any outdoor area.

Different materials will give you a range of different options as well - not just in terms of the way they look and feel, but also in terms of how they stand up to the weather, and how much maintenance they need. You may even choose to use a combination of materials - synthetic or natural - to create your deck.

The options are limited only by what you can imagine (and afford, of course)!

Types of decks and deck designs
