Kitchen Renovation - new stove/ oven distance from old fuel stove

Hi,

I have purchased a house that still has its original fuel stove, which is still functional. I am wanting to update/renovate the kitchen and was wondering if there is a required minimum distance that I would need to keep a new electric or gas cooker/ stove from the fuel stove.

Thanks

Cabinetry above Electric Cooktop

I am replacing my kitchen cabinetry and am having a cabinet 600mm above my cook top.
The cook top is located in a nook between a window and doorway to the outside so there is plenty of ventilation.
The cabinetmaker insists that it is compulsory to have a range hood installed? . Is he correct?
Thankyou

Rangehood size vs cooktop size

Hi,

Is there a NSW (or Australian) code that mandates the minimum rangehood size vs cooktop size? I have a 600mm rangehood for a 750mm cooktop installed and I don't think it is right. I would assume that the rangehood should cover at least the width of the cooktop.

I am looking for code/legislation but also expert advise.

Thanks!

Kitchen upgrade. Electrical installation and isolation switches

I'm in South Australia in case it makes a difference to rules! Installing a new flat pack kitchen soon with Gas cook-top (bottled gas) and electric under bench oven. I have seen and been told, conflicting things regarding the legal requirements for an isolation switch. If I have a Gas cook-top, do I still have to have an isolation switch installed for the Electric oven??
Thanks in anticipation, Lesley N.

Kitchen waste taps

I have a wheelchair user so we are installing a floating kitchen bench where the waste trap below the sink is exposed. For aesthetic reasons we want this to be as shallow as possible. Where can I find regulations or can you advise regulations on what is required for a kitchen sink waste trap. I have seen "Shallow Traps" but they have a shallower depth of water seal - are there limits regulated here?
Or am I allowed a bathroom sink style bottle trap?

Kitchen Bench - Height allowance of bench between a join

I would like to know the allowable Australian Standard to height variation on a kitchen benchtop between a join.

Our bench which is only 7mm in height and sits on a 33mm substrate is uneven between one of the two joins.

As you can see in the attached photo we've put a spirit level on the join to show how it's not flush.

The join is on a standard 600mm benchtop and the height variation starts approx 15mm from the benchtop edge and all the way to tiles.

Thanks

Rangehood requirement

Hi,

I am building a house and my builder made a mistake by only leaving 200mm gap between my cooktop and sink in the kitchen, although I have made a variation (signed off) to increase the gap to 400mm.

After my inspection (rangehood, oven & sink installed), I made a complain about it and they said they are willing to the cooktop but not the rangehood & oven, with the comment below.

Kitchen sink size and what really is the difference between expensive sinks and cheap ones?

Hi there,

My first time on this site. I want to install a square flush mount sink but am unsure as to what size kitchen sink I should install in an island bench which is 2900 long and 900 wide

and

I could spend up big on an Oliveri or Smeg for eg, but do I need to?

I have seen sinks on ebay more than half the price of a smeg or oliveri.
