Porcelain spreads the home love affair

12 December 2023

The line between functional kitchen space and chill-out living area is becoming increasingly blurred thanks to the emergence of sophisticated surface materials that exude both luxury and longevity.

Porcelain and its inherent qualities of heat and stain resistance is the exciting newcomer thanks in part to its ability to emulate virtually any surface.

Caesarstone introduced its first collection of Porcelain in 2022 and has found it is being specified frequently for adjoining living spaces as the preferred choice for dining tables and built-in furniture, such as cabinets and credenzas.

The kitchen (pictured), designed by multi-award-winning Studio Minosa, demonstrates how Porcelain Striata, used in the kitchen for both the striking curved island bench and rear countertop, has also been used in the adjoining living space for both the dining table and built-in fireplace surround.

The result is one of cohesion and harmony across the two spaces, melding style with functionality.

The success of this kitchen/living design is also due, in part, to the inspired layering of materials, colour and texture. The natural grain patterns of the deep-tone timbers for cabinetry and cladding bring a sense of organic beauty.

Texture is introduced in the form of ribbing, featured in the timber cladding of the island and mirrored in the kit-kat tiled splashback and reed glass cabinetry doors.

The hero of the space, however, is undoubtedly the dramatically striated surface of Caesarstone Porcelain Striata in an Ultra Rough finish. Featuring the appearance of rough-hewn stone, bold veins traverse its smoky grey, weathered base along with prominent markings in rust, chalk-white and burnt orange.

There is much to love about this Porcelain surface. It’s a sustainably sourced and ethically produced material that has superior heat, stain and scratch resistance as well as complete ultra-violet resistance (so the same surface can be used on an outdoor kitchen as well).

In keeping with Caesarstone’s environmental sustainability commitment, Porcelain carries the Greenguard, Health Product Declaration, Living Building Challenge Red List Compliance, European Conformity and Kosher certificates of approval.
