Energy efficiency is set to be the ‘mot du jour’ for the decade to come as builders, architects and designers strive for the perfect home. Research shows that up to 40% of heat escapes from a home via its windows but double glazing can decrease heat loss by almost 30%.
Stegbar marketing director Christine Evans says: “Building regulations will continue to push green building, new technologies in glazing and improved product engineering and design. This will facilitate better energy efficiency with the home and reduce the reliance on artificial climate controls.”

In a similar vein, being water-wise in the home is equally crucial to a sustainable future.
Methven brand manager Nick Swan says that one of the easiest ways to do this is to ensure taps and showerheads have a good rating within the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme.
“Consumers need not choose between an efficient shower and a shower that feels good, which is why we have seen a rising interest in consumers requesting more efficient showerheads since the introduction of the fourth star to the WELS rating system.”
