There’s a lot to think about as a property owner or premises manager, but few things as more important than your gas infrastructure – for obvious reasons. Because of the importance of gas safety, Australian jurisdictions divide the gas appliances we use at home, at work and in industrial settings as either a Type A or Type B gas appliance.
Examples of Type A gas appliances
It shouldn’t be too hard to remember the difference between these two fundamental gas appliance types, because a Type A gas appliance is basically every gas-related installation that you’ll find at home, such as:
More specifically, each Australian state and territory sets out the definition of Type A gas appliances for gas compliance purposes – with installations in the Type B appliance category not included in this scheme. One of the main differences between the two types of gas appliances is that an ordinary gas work license only covers professionals who will work on a ‘normal’, mass-produced Type A gas appliance. For the rest, a Type B gas fitter – who undergoes different training and holds different credentials – will be necessary.
