It's time to get ready for summer!

Spring has truly sprung – daylight savings has kicked in, the AFL Grand Final has been and gone, and the countdown to a long, hot summer is well and truly on.

The Bureau of Meteorology has released is long-term outlook for the summer months stating that daytime temperatures are likely to be above average across the whole country with rainfall below average.

Last year saw record-breaking temperatures in Australia and, with the warmer months bringing a heightened risk of dangerous heat waves, the Bureau has reactivated its Heatwave Service to show locations severity of heat waves across the country.

Bureau of Meteorology public safety general manager Shoni Maguire says the potential for severe or extreme heat waves is ever-present: “We’ve already seen above average temperatures and fire weather conditions across parts of Australia so far this year.”

But for those who can handle the heat, the great outdoors is a big draw and now is the time to get everything in order for your summer plans – whether that’s entertaining friends, keeping kids safe in the backyard, or just creating a haven of green to chill out in after a long day at the office.

It doesn’t have to be a massive investment either – there are plenty of DIY fixes that can enhance your garden or yard and turn it into a de facto ‘room’ of your home.
